Details on Duncan

So, yes we have officially committed to Duncan. If you've been with me from the beginning, you know we had originally wanted Duncan and Sam. But, as we were about to commit, we felt the need to back away from Duncan. There were other families that we knew felt led to him, and we felt selfish actually for going for both of them and denying someone else that chance. So we backed away from Duncan. We wanted him to have the best family for him. It was hard to do, and it really hurt to do it. But we recently found out that the family who was so devoted to him would not be able to adopt him. They were devastated, and I hurt for them. Please keep them in your prayers, as they are feeling the loss of their future son.

I hadn't changed the name of our blog from eight down to seven mortons, because someone was missing! God knew that someone was Duncan. He will be such a blessing to our family. With the support of his brothers and sisters (we'll now have three boys and three girls!), he will be able to build his confidence, see that his physical limitations have nothing to do with how much he is loved, and have opportunities he has only dreamed of. Please keep us in your prayers!!

Of course, this does add to the expense! Please help us get the word out about our fundraisers, as we will need approximately $5000 more than what we have been planning for! We hope to have some Team Duncan shirts made up (did you know the cerebral palsy awareness symbol is a green butterfly? How awesome is that? They will also be $15, ($5 shipping for out of towners) and we hope to have them available for purchase next week.

  1. A few odd questions:

    1. When will the boys know they have a mom and dad coming for them?

    2. Will they still go to an institution while they wait, or will they be able to stay where they are until you bring them home?

    3. Are they in the same orphanage?

I truly love watching these journeys unfold. It is just wonderful. I hope that Duncan soon knows how much Jesus loves him and that he is beautiful inside as well as out.

  4. Renee at http://www.butbygraceitcouldbeme.blogspot.com/ said that the director of the orphanage the boys are at would keep the boys for as long as she could before transferring them. I'm guessing that she'll definitely be able to keep them safe and sound once she knows their family is on the way.

  6. Dear Morton Family,
I learned of Duncan via a friend that is adopting through Reece's Rainbow. When I read his story and saw his picture I must saw he stole my heart. I prayed and prayed that his family would find him in time. I am so happy for your family and for Duncan. I pray that the adoptions of Samuel and Duncan go smoothly. May God Bless you.

  7. Hi Traci! I found your blog today and have read it all.:) I am a high school English as a Second Language teacher in Oklahoma who has had the joy of having several students in my class who were adopted from Eastern Europe as teenagers. I love all of my ESL students dearly, but the ones from EE hold a very special place in my heart as I am able to help them transition to a new language/culture, I have the best job ever! I sure can't wait to see your two boys learning all that the love of a family is about and I am excited to continue reading your blog as you adopt Sam and Duncan! My prayers are with you all during your journey to your boys! -Courtney Connelly

  10. I prayed for your sons before I knew they were your sons. I am beyond words that God is bringing them home, especially as brothers.

  11. So excited! Praise God! The first day I saw Duncan and Sam, randomly clicking over to Reece's Rainbow for the first time in a long time, I WEPT over Duncan's photo and story. I've never had that happen before. My heart just absolutely broke for that precious, handsome boy. Wished we could take him even though we've never even thought about adopting out of birth order (my oldest is only four!) or even decided for sure or started any part of the adoption process! Anyway, I kept checking RR to see Duncan show up on the New Commitments page - love that he will be coming home with you and Sam.
